Blueberries are one of Michigan's most beloved exports, and we eat them by the pound ourselves when they're in season. So, it makes perfect sense that the inaugural Blueberry Eating Championship was hosted in Grand Rapids on Saturday, July 13th.

The eating competition was a part of the Beer City Open Pickleball Championship being hosted in Grand Rapids this weekend (since blueberries are the Major League Pickleball's official fruit.)

Eight of professional eating's best competitors showed up to try to see how many blueberries they could take down in Eight minutes, and the numbers were impressive. But the man who walked away with the crown (and a new world record), is no stranger to winning.

Patrick Bertoletti just won first at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest earlier this month, and set a world record in Major League Eating, yesterday. He ate an impressively mind-blowing 18.475 pounds of blueberries to snag the win.

Right behind him was Geoffrey Esper, who is ranked second in the world. He ate 16.044 pounds of berries, which is still an impressive amount. There was no Cinderella story here- had you placed a bet, you wouldn't have won much. But, it's pretty neat to see how consistent these champions truly are.
