Mega Concert Promotor AEG Requiring Proof of COVID Vaccine for Events

They are the are one of the biggest concert promoters with venues all across the country including right here in Michigan, and they are laying down the "law".

AEG Presents, who handles promotion for shows at various venues across Michigan, announced Thursday that it will require all concertgoers and their event staff to be vaccinated.

AEG Presents has nearly 50 venues across the country, and will have the vaccination policy in full effect by October 1. For those events before October 1, anyone attending  will need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test that was taken within 72 hours prior to the show.

The new mandate is in response to the current surge in COVID -19 cases across the country. In a press release from AEG, Jay Marciano, COO of AEG and Chairman and CEO, AEG Presents addressed the reason for the new rule saying,

“We have come to the conclusion that, as a market leader, it was up to us to take a real stand on vaccination status,” he said . “Just a few weeks ago, we were optimistic about where our business, and country, were heading. The Delta variant, combined with vaccine hesitancy, is pushing us in the wrong direction again. We realize that some people might look at this as a dramatic step, but it’s the right one. We also are aware that there might be some initial pushback, but I’m confident and hopeful that, at the end of the day, we will be on the right side of history and doing what’s best for artists, fans, and live event workers.”

According to the statement, the vaccination policy will be implemented as an open-ended one, with any changes or reversals informed by updates relating to infection rates, transmission data, variant developments, and local and federal regulations.

“Our hope is that our pro-active stance encourages people to do the right thing and get vaccinated,” added Marciano. “We’ve already had to deliver bad news about JazzFest this week; I think everyone can agree that we don’t want concerts to go away again, and this is the best way to keep that from happening.”

AEG may not be standing alone on this. Just a few days ago it was announced that U.S. artists and concert organizers under Live Nation will have the option to require its audiences show proof they received a Covid-19 vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test.  There will be more to come I am sure.
