Travelers to and from Michigan can get rapid COVID-19 tests at welcome centers and airports.

The new Travel Points Testing Programs rolled out this week to provide rapid antigen tests for those traveling to and from Michigan. These rapid antigen tests are free and provided on a voluntary basis and in many airports and welcome centers throughout Michigan.

If someone is wanting to get a rapid COVID-19 antigen test, they can make appointments with their mobile devices and walk-in testing is available as well, as space permits. The results of the tests become available in 15 minutes or so. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services and the Michigan Department of Transportation partnered together to offer these tests in areas with high travel volumes.

With growing concerns of new, more contagious variants, testing for COVID-19 is more important than ever...If you are engaging in any travel, we encourage you to take advantage of this testing when you re-enter or travel across the state...said Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, chief medical executive and chief deputy for health.

Which travel welcome centers will be providing the rapid COVID-19 antigen tests?

The first two Michigan welcome centers to offer the tests are in Dundee and Monroe. The Dundee Welcome Center rest area is on U.S. 23 near mile marker 8. The Monroe Welcome Center is on I-75 near mile marker 10. At each of these welcome centers, testing trailers will be open seven days per week from 10 am until 5 pm.

Cherry Capital Airport in Traverse City was the first to open their testing clinic on April 7th and it runs from 2 pm until 10 pm on Wednesdays, on Fridays from noon until 8 pm, and on Sundays from 3 pm until 11 pm.
