One thing that most of us take for granted is our vision.

When you're young you might not need glasses or contacts, but for a lot of us as the years go on, our vision starts to worsen to the point that we might need some help to see things like we used to.

For some people the vision worsens naturally or something happens that they become legally blind.

One piece of modern technology that's been helping people with these issues are META AI smart glasses.

Some Michigan veterans will soon be able to receive a pair of these glasses to help them live an easier life.

META Giving Blind Michigan Veterans Free AI Glasses

META AI smart glasses have increased in popularity because they can capture a unique point of view (POV) along with taking pictures and recording video.

While that's really cool and impressive, what these glasses offer for accessibility is a game changer for people.

With simple commands these smart glasses can do things such as:

Read Printed Documents: A wearer can hold up mail, a menu, or a medicine bottle, and the glasses will read the text aloud into their ear.

Identify Everyday Objects: The AI describes the physical layout of a room, spots obstacles, or identifies items on a table.

Assist with Real-Time Navigation: It helps users interpret their surroundings hands-free, providing an extra layer of autonomy alongside traditional tools like a white cane or guide dog.

If you know a veteran, here is what they need to qualify for these free META AI smart glasses.

Discharge Status: Must be an honorably discharged veteran or an active-duty service member.

Vision Status: Must qualify for the VA Blind Rehabilitation Service (legally blind or severely vision-impaired).

BVA Membership: Distribution is being routed through the Blinded Veterans Association. If a veteran isn't a member yet, they can register for free online when they apply for the glasses.

I love that this is being done, and hope it makes a huge difference for those that receive them.
