Dianne Gordon's selflessness has made her an Internet hero here in Michigan and now she's the happy owner of a new Jeep as a reward for her kind act.

You may remember Dianne from earlier this month when a GoFundMe campaign that was set up on her behalf shattered its original goal of $25,000. As of today, more than $82,000 dollars has been raised through the crowdfunding platform. And, as you'll see in the video below, Dianne has gone from walking nearly three miles to work each day to driving a brand-new Jeep Compass.

Here's How Dianne's Story Began

Dianne Gordon found a bag containing a large sum of money last month as she was walking home from work on January 21. Gordon has been making the 2.7-mile trek twice a day on foot since her car died last year.

Gordon spotted the bag outside a BP gas station where she had stopped to warm up. In addition to the cash, it also contained a number of wedding cards. She didn't hesitate before turning the money in at a local police station.

When the cops totaled up the find, there was $14,780 in the bag. Eventually, the police were able to track down the recently-married couple and returned the money and cards to them.

Community Rallies Around Woman Who Returns Money

Sgt. Brad Connell with the White Lake Police Department tells WJBK-TV that it was his wife who had the idea to reward Gordon for her selflessness.

"My wife said we've got to do something," says Connell. "My wife got with the chief and started the GoFundMe page."

Now, thanks to the generosity of the community and Szott M-59 Chrysler Jeep in White Lake, Dianne has wheels. According to WJBK-TV some of the money donated will also be used to do some home improvements on Dianne's house.

Gordon says she is grateful for the attention but notes that her favorite part of the story is the fact that the money had been returned to its rightful owner.
