Michigan Could See Higher Speed Limits Soon
We already have a speed limit of 70 on most major freeways. However, one senator wants to raise that.
Senator Rick Jones from Grand Ledge said that when he was driving NOBODY obeyed the posted speed limit. So, he said why not raise the limit to something that everyone does already. Currently, the way speed limits are determined are by how 85% of (or more) people drive on the roads. The "DOT" also looks at quick you can drive given the roads condition.
Jones also said that with most of us going 75 or 80 on freeways that those going slower actually create a very dangerous situation that could be avoided by changing the speed limit to something that more people can agree upon.
The senator hopes the bill will be presentable by fall.
