Michigan Loves Pumpkin Spice Lattes
Every year, as fall approaches, we start to see pumpkin spice lattes available at our favorite coffee shops. Even though you hear many people joking about how everything is "pumpkin spice" flavor, apparently we like that taste here in Michigan.
The website nutritiondietnews.com put together a map by tracking more than 120,000 tweets. They counted the hashtags #psl, #pumpkinspicelatte and #pumpkinspiceseason to determine which states love their pumpkin spice lattes.
Using the geotagged Twitter data, Michigan ranked ninth in the country in pumpkin spice latte-related tweets and hashtags. The state of Maine took the number one spot.
The Top 10 Pumpkin Spice Latte-Loving States are:
1. Maine
2. Virginia
3. North Carolina
4. Ohio
5. Tennessee
6. Nebraska
7. South Carolina

Dunkin’ Donuts has been offering up a pumpkin spice latte since August 19. This year Starbucks released their version on August 25th -- their earliest release of the fall drink for them. Pumpkin Spice Lattes are Starbucks’ top-selling seasonal beverage of all time.
It's interesting how most of the popularity for the drink is in the northeast part of the United States. It's not so popular out west or in the south, with the exception of Florida.
One other interesting note: Pumpkin spice lattes may get all the hype, but pumpkin doughnuts are actually the more searched-for product. Available starting September 1st at participating Krispy Kreme shops all around the United States, Krispy Kreme will be rolling out its new pumpkin spice doughnut collection.
According to new data from food delivery service Grubhub, the most popular pumpkin-flavored order during pumpkin season 2019 (August through December) was the pumpkin muffin. Orders for this item increased 365% from 2018 to 2019.
Despite all the buzz about pumpkin spice lattes, they were actually the fourth most ordered pumpkin product. Pumpkin praline cheesecake and pumpkin spice milkshakes were number two and three, respectively. Pumpkin bread was the fifth most-popular item.
