iPhone Crash Detection Saves Two Men After Daring Emergency Plane Landing in Ludington
Two Michigan men are doing well following a plane crash this past Saturday.

The pilot and his passenger were flying from Fremont to Ludington when the plane's engine seized, and the pilot had to act fast to safely land the airplane.
As soon as the engine went out, the pilot was able to steer the plane into the wind to try and give it some additional lift.

According to WZZM 13, he found a spot and flew the plane towards the Ludington Pump Storage Reservoir on South Lakeshore Drive.
After landing, the plane slid down an embankment eventually coming to a rest at the bottom of the hill.
When that happened one of the men's phones sent out a crash detection alert that was able to notify the Mason County Sheriff's Office who quickly arrived on the scene.

The iPhone's Crash Detection feature is designed to automatically detect a severe car crash, or in this case a plane crash.
It uses a bunch of fancy sensors that I can't pronounce, including a high G-force accelerometer, gyroscope, barometer, and GPS to accurately identify an accident.
When a crash is detected, the device sounds a loud alert and displays an on-screen prompt, giving the user about 20 seconds to respond.
If the user is unresponsive, the iPhone will automatically call local emergency services, plays an audio message informing them that a severe crash occurred, and shares the user's precise location to ensure help arrives quickly.
Thankfully the two men were not hurt, just shaken up, but if they would have been unconscious, this technology definitely could have helped save their lives.
