Grand Rapids Planned Parenthood Now Offering Vasectomies
Another option for family planning is now available in West Michigan. The Grand Rapids location of Planned Parenthood is now the first in the state to offer vasectomies.
Planned Parenthood says it plans to offer the procedure at other clinics throughout the year.

In a post on Facebook, Planned Parenthood of Michigan announced the new service, saying,
Vasectomy is a safe and effective method of permanent birth control, making it a great option for people who are sure they don’t want to have children in the future.
As previously stated, the procedure is currently only available at Planned Parenthood's Irwin/Martin Health Center in Grand Rapids. Vasectomies are generally covered, or at least partially covered, by many insurance policies.
Why Are Michigan Planned Parenthood Locations Offering Vasectomies?
In a release, Dr. Kate Starr, Chief Medical Officer for Planned Parenthood of Michigan, said that they are now offering the procedure because there has been increased patient interest in accessible options.
We hear from a lot of our patients about wanting more control over their reproductive health or wanting to support their partners in preventing pregnancy and wishing they had more accessible options, so we are very excited to add vasectomy to the long list of sexual and reproductive health care services we offer.
It's important to keep in mind that, while vasectomies can be reversed via a lengthy procedure done by a urologist that likely will not be covered by insurance, a vasectomy should be considered a permanent form of birth control.
