While most of us are trying to stay inside and warm this winter, skunks across Michigan are braving the colder temperatures to find a mate.

Weather can sometimes play a factor in when skunks start mating, but it typically happens in February and March.

When a male finally finds a female to mate with, she can reject his advances by letting out a stinky odor.

So, if you notice a really strong smell when you step outside, it's most likely the smell of love being rejected.
