Because of the pandemic, back in March, Governor Whitmer had extended renewals on IDs until September 30 and now you can easily and safely get that taken care of at the SOS office.

Michigan's Secretary of State, Jocelyn Benson, announced on Thursday that SOS offices will be offering special appointments and extended hours for people who need to get their information renewed. This is specifically for renewing drivers licenses and state-issued ID's that expire between January 1 and September 30, 2020.

These special appointments are another tool helping us to ensure continued service to Michigan residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

You may schedule your appointment now for Aug. 24 through Sep. 30 (M-F) between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Choose your location and schedule your appointment here. You're asked to arrive 10 minutes prior to scheduled time. You can also call 888-SOS-MICH (767-6424) to set up an appointment.

If you have a tag or vehicle registration that needs renewing, you're advised to do that online, by mail, or at one of the self-service stations. You can find the nearest one here. Vehicle registrations have also been extended through September 30th.

In other news, your mail may take even longer now to arrive to you after many sorting machines were dismantled in Grand Rapids. The process was stopped after Postmaster General Lous DeJoy said the restructuring of the USPS will wait until after elections. If you are voting absentee make sure you mail yours early so that it gets counted. See the list of the 900+ ballot drop off boxes in Michigan.
