If you grew up in Michigan, then you know how crazy the weather can get.

One minute the sun is out and the day seems great, and then a few minutes later, dark clouds can roll in, bringing severe weather with them, sending everyone to their basement or safe place for cover.

One of the most impressive examples I've seen of extreme Michigan weather is lake-effect snow.
I learned about it the hard way when I moved from Howell to Grand Rapids.
I couldn't believe that a storm system could bring 2–3" of snow back home, while lake-effect snow would dump 6–12" along the lakeshore and all the way to Grand Rapids.

Snow isn't the only thing that can reach extremes in Michigan.
Over the years, the Mitten State has seen some incredibly high and dramatically low temperatures that could make you think you lived in a desert or the North Pole.
There have also been some precipitation totals that would make you think you'd better build an ark.
