A Michigan woman might have watched a few too many movies where people sneak things into jails and never get caught.

Unfortunately for her, the plan she devised didn't work out and has now landed her behind bars.

Shannon Jean Soltys, of Cedar Springs has been sentenced to nine months in jail for her role in a scheme to smuggle drugs into the Kent County jail.

Soltys was found guilty of forging documents to impersonate attorneys, exploiting attorney-client privilege to facilitate the delivery of narcotics.

The investigation began in April 2023 when a lawyer reported receiving suspicious mail that was later found to contain Suboxone, an opioid used for treating addiction.

After taking a deeper look, authorities discovered methamphetamine, fentanyl, and other drug-related materials at Soltys' home.

She confessed to sending two packages containing a total of ten Suboxone strips to an inmate and acknowledged her actions during recorded conversations with another inmate.

In addition to her jail time, Soltys will serve three years of probation following her release.
