Technically speaking, the oldest golf course in the state is Harbor Point Golf Club in Harbor Springs which was built in 1896. Harbor Point is a "semi-private" club.

And when most people think about the state's oldest golf course, they think of Wawashkamo Golf Club on Mackinac Island. It even has its own historical marker.

Wawashkamo was built in 1898, and touts itself as "one of Michigan's oldest active courses". This leads one to believe that it isn't actually the oldest active course and that there is likely at least one other.

Les Cheneaux Golf Club started back in 1896 (the same year as Wawashkamo), and has operated every season since (though play was limited during the 2024 season.)

Their logo even boasts that they are, "Michigan's Oldest Links Course".
