Michigan Is Home To The Most Dangerous Lake In America
I recently heard someone on the news say that Michigan is home to the most dangerous lake in the entire country.

When I first heard that, I was kind of surprised.
So I decided to look around online to find out for myself if that's true.
Along the way I found out some interesting facts about Michigan lakes.
For example, in Michigan we have more than 11,000 inland lakes.
And In Michigan you're never more than 6 miles away from an inland lake or stream, and the one that really surprised me is that at no point is Michigan more than 85 miles away from one of the Great Lakes.

I found out that Lake Superior isn't the country's deadliest lake. However, another Great Lake is the most dangerous in America.

Lake Michigan is actually the most dangerous lake in the entire country for several reasons.
Lake Michigan accounts for half of the deaths in all of the Great Lakes.
And data from the Great Lakes Surf Rescue Project shows that Lake Michigan consistently has more fatalities than any other lake in the country.
As a matter of fact, since 2010, more than 600 people have drowned in Lake Michigan alone which is way more than any other body of freshwater in the U.S.
Hopefully learning this information won't keep you away from Lake Michigan, but instead will make you be more alert and safe when you're near or in the water.
