The big movie everyone is talking about this weekend is the new Fast & Furious movie, F9, but here in Grand Rapids a brand new movie that was filmed here is also premiering this weekend.

Something in the Clouds will premiere at Studio Park in Downtown Grand Rapids on Saturday. Grand Rapids native, John Sikkema, is the guy behind the movie. He told WOOD-TV he was able to have some of his West Michigan friends involved in the movie along with his friends from Los Angeles, where he currently resides.

We really got to rally together, we all flew out here and it was a long process. It was eight months to just make a short film. It takes a village to make a piece like this.

The short film is about a 14-year-old boy who witnesses his neighbor get kidnapped.

It follows his moment of bravery to save her that tests his courage on the bike ride of his life.

Sikkema says his goal with his studio company, Black Pigeon Studios, is to film movies in West Michigan and hire local talent. He's currently in the process of building a studio in the area as well.

The film will premiere during Cultivate Grand Rapids 2021, a networking event at Studio Park. The event is taking place Saturday from 6p-10p and features panel discussions, music, drinks, art installations, and the short film. Unfortunately, tickets are already sold out but keep a look out for the movie so you can catch it yourself.
