Muskegon Woman Who Bit Trooper and Stole Police Car Learns Her Fate
Most of us have, at some point, daydreamed about hopping into a sports car that isn’t ours and speeding off into the sunset. Or, maybe you’ve played enough Grand Theft Auto to get that thrill out of your system.
But for one Muskegon County woman, that dream took a bizarre (and very illegal) turn when she took a stolen Michigan State Police cruiser for a two-county long joy ride.
Is it legal? Did you know these outdated Michigan laws that can get you arrested? ⬇️
Her adventure ended just as dramatically as it began, with a crash in Newaygo County and yet another arrest—this time, with even more charges being added to her rap sheet. Probably not her best move.
Cortney was originally detained as part of a domestic assault investigation that was going on in Ravenna. According to MSP, she was visibly upset when officers informed her that she was under arrest. Rather than accepting her fate and being accountable for her actions, she decided to run for it.
A scuffle ensued, during which she bit a state trooper before being placed in the back of a cruiser. But Cortney wasn’t done. Somehow, she freed one hand from her cuffs, slid into the driver’s seat, and took off, sirens and all.
The entire thing was caught on police dashcam footage, which has since made the rounds on social media, proving that truth is often stranger (and dumber) than fiction.
On Thursday, Morey was sentenced to a year in jail, while getting credit for the six months she has already served, as well as three years of probation. She also owes over $1,200 in fines, which is probably the least of her problems. Maybe next time she'll just take the ride to jail, versus trying to drive herself.
