Lansing Has A New Hollywood Inspired Sign Which Is Way Better Than Detroit’s
The City of Lansing has unveiled a new "Hollywood-style" sign, reminiscent of the iconic Hollywood sign in California.
The unveiling took place on Monday at the northeast corner of Grand Avenue and Saginaw Street.
What Does The New Sign Look Like?
The new sign features six-foot-tall letters spelling out "Lansing," each uniquely designed by a different local artist.
Mayor Andy Schor expressed his excitement during the ceremony.
“We’re showing off the excitement and the vibrancy that is the city of Lansing”
This initiative was made possible through a partnership between the Lansing Economic Development Corporation and the Arts Council of Greater Lansing, which organized a contest this summer for artists to contribute their designs.
The project received funding totaling $40,000, with significant contributions from both the Michigan Economic Development Corporation and the Community Economic Development Association.
Among the artists involved, Emily Wilson created a mural representing Greater Lansing's recreational experiences, while Teresa Dunn focused on portraying diverse women through her artwork.
Other artists like Jasmyne Wells and Cait Schneider drew inspiration from personal connections to the city.
This new Lansing landmark not only serves as a welcoming beacon for visitors but also aims to enhance community pride and tourism in Lansing.
The project aligns with similar efforts seen in Detroit, where city leaders have also embraced the iconic Hollywood style signage to attract tourists ahead of significant events like the recent NFL draft.
