Northern Michigan University and the Upper Peninsula city of  Marquette were honored by making the 30 Most Beautiful Ski Town Colleges list.

The list, compiled by Online College Plan, mainly featured schools and towns in the mountainous western states or in the upper Appalachians of the northeast.

Marquette and NMU came in at 15th on the list, citing the annual snowfall totals, and the school's link to the US Winter Olympics as key factors:

While Marquette (home to Northern Michigan University) is not known for its towering mountains, the average annual snowfall of 149” makes skiing inevitable. Nearby Pine Mountain Resort was founded in 1939 and is visited by people from all over the world. It is the only ski-in/ski-out resort in the UP and is known as one of the best-groomed hills in Michigan. There is also Mount Bohemia which is located in the northernmost tip of Michigan on a peninsula jutting out into Lake Superior.

Northern Michigan University has both a Nordic and Alpine Ski Team, and teams train with nearby Lake Superior providing unprecedented beauty. There is a Board & Ski Club for skiers of all levels. The University also offers a Ski Area Business Management major.

If you don't know already, Mount Bohemia is a legendary ski area, known for its big powder and its rugged extreme skiing areas.
