With Memorial Day weekend being the first holiday weekend that lands in warmer weather, a lot of people kick off summer activities and while it’s getting warmer on land, the water is a different story.

The National Weather Service – Grand Rapids, posted to Twitter that while the temps are rising, it takes the lake water a lot longer to heat up.

As of Sunday at 2:07 pm, the posted the temperature in Lake Michigan near Muskegon was 54 degrees and then gave some stats on how quickly that could turn deadly.

In 1 minute….…COLD SHOCK

In 10 minutes…INCAPACITATION

In 1 Hour……..…HYPOTHERMIA

So if you’re headed to the beach or out on the boat, you shouldn’t be jumping in the water just yet. It could still be deadly; which is fine because I need more time to blow up my giant unicorn float.
