Behind the New York Metropolitan area, Detroit is the worst hit region in the country for COVID-19.  Over the last couple of days, multiple hospitals in Detroit began reporting their total number of workers who have tested positive for COVID-19 and it's incredibly high.

Metro Detroit has a rather large and robust health care industry, but it is currently being pushed past its limits amidst the novel coronavirus pandemic.  As of March 26th, Beaumont Hospital in Wayne County announced that they are only accepting COVID-19 patients to reduce infection rates between other patients.  Since that time, the number of COVID-19 patients has continued to grow in the area and many of them are health care workers.

2 Days ago, Beaumont Hospital reported that at least 1,500 of their employees have symptoms consistent with COVID-19.  And to make matters worse for Metro Detroit, Henry Ford Health (the largest health care provider in the area) announced they have more than 700 workers who have tested positive for COVID-19.

These numbers are expected to continue to rise throughout the month, but some relief might be available soon as Michigan State University is graduating early hundreds of students in health care fields to help meet the needs of hospitals in the area and across the country.
