Rapid Bus Hit By Train in Alger Heights Monday Afternoon

A Rapid bus was hit by a train Monday afternoon in Grand Rapids' Alger Heights neighborhood.

FOX-17 reports that the bus driver had stopped for the tracks, and then was unable to get the traction to get over them due to ice.

When the crossing arms came down, the quick-thinking driver evacuated all of the passengers.

The train was able to slow down, but could not avoid hitting the bus. When they collided, the bus was going approximately 4 MPH. The crash occurred on Kalamazoo Avenue SE north of Alger Street. Kalamazoo Ave. was shut down while crews worked to remove the bus from the tracks.

Luckily, the train did not derail and there were no injuries reported.
