This Wednesday (Jan. 6th), rioters stormed the U.S. Capitol building interrupting a joint session of Congress that was convened to certify the electoral college votes from the 2020 presidential election.

Protestors had gathered at the U.S. Capitol building to voice their objection to the certification of the electoral votes that would name Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.

Outside the U.S. Capitol, several dozen Trump supporters waved flags and prayed for "angel armies" to intervene, calling on lawmakers inside to "reject" the election.

The joint session of Congress had split up into the two houses to debate the electoral votes from Arizona when protestors stormed the U.S. Capitol building. The building was put on lockdown, and the House and the Senate took a recess.

The situation escalated, and D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser ordered a citywide curfew from 6PM today until 6 AM tomorrow morning. Now the D.C. National guard has been activated to assist the local and federal law enforcement officers.

Several House of Representative members from Michigan have tweeted about the events that are taking place at the U.S. capitol, and we've included many of those tweets below.

Kyle Griffin, an MSNBC producer, tweeted that one explosive device was found on the grounds.

This is a developing story. We will update as more information becomes available.
