High school seniors across West Michigan are counting down the days until graduation with the anticipation growing more and more every day.

One West Michigan police department is urging parents of those seniors to discourage their kids from participating in the wildly popular 'senior assassin' game.

Senior games and pranks are nothing new - we all participated in them when we were in school ("Back in MY day..."). But times have changed, and the Rockford Department of Public Safety is urging caution when it comes to this game in particular.

Rockford, Michigan, High School Students Participating in 'Senior Assassin' Game

Senior Assassin isn't just a Rockford thing, or even just a Michigan thing. Students around the country have been participating in their own versions of it.

The game, essentially, involves all of the players going around with squirt guns or Nerf guns and 'hunting' and 'eliminating' other players with them. The last man, or woman, standing wins.

The game is meant to be fun, but the Rockford Department of Public Safety says that there have been some dangerous behaviors.

The game has led to hazardous driving situations with students making dangerous maneuvers, speeding, or driving recklessly while being pursued or trying to eliminate someone. Some subjects have jumped out of moving vehicles and created serious traffic hazards. - Rockford Department of Public Safety via Facebook

Another issue that has arisen is that some of the toy guns being used by students don't exactly look like toys.

Police are reminding both students and parents that this game is not a school-sanctioned event. They also say that, if a student does choose to participate in the game, it's important to make sure that the toy gun they are using does not, in any way, resemble a real weapon.
