The 1913 Room is gone, but today a new restaurant opens at its former site.  Ruth's Chris Steak House has over 100 restaurants across the country and is known for their steaks and fine dining.  This is the second Ruth's Chris Steak House to open in Michigan, the other is in Troy.

Personally, I had never heard of Ruth's Chris Steak House before it was announced that they would be moving into town.  The name strikes me as odd.  Sort of a Fifth Third Bank vibe to it, but it seems too be working for them.  They have a loyal following and many are excited to have one in Grand Rapids.

Mlive.com gives us an idea of what to expect on the menu:

The USDA Prime corn-fed Midwestern steaks range in price from $35 for a petite filet to $86 for a Porterhouse for two, potatoes, veggies and salads not included. Other non-beef selections like a vegetarian plate ($18). stuffed chicken breast ($23) and barbecued shrimp ($26) also are available.

Wine elections range from $8 for a glass of Riesling to $2,100 for a bottle of Grand Vin de Chateau Latour Classic, vintage 1982 .

The 1913 Room’s well-known Dover Sole also will be among the featured selections.

A bistro menu geared toward diners in the restaurant’s bar features a a few less-expensive options, including a $13 chicken sandwich and a $17 steak sandwich.

So...there is no dollar menu.

I look forward to visiting someday.  I'll start feeding my piggy bank tonight.

Now, if we could only get a White Castle.
