Saugatuck Considering Legalizing Sales of Recreational & Medical Weed
While the majority of Allegan County has opted out of the use and sale of medical and recreational marijuana, the city of Saugatuck is now exploring the idea.
The Holland Sentinel reports that the city sent out a 4-question survey to over 900 of their residents to get their opinions on where they stand on the issue. The questions asked about
...benefits, concerns, the appropriate number of facilities in the city and which retail districts should be allowed for marijuana facilities to operate on.
Surveys are due Friday, May 10th and a public hearing will be held on Thursday, May 16th at Saugatuck City Hall to discuss the matter.
Despite 70% of the city voting 'yes' on Proposal 1 during November elections, Saugatuck's zoning administrator told the Holland Sentinel: "We really don’t know what our residents want." She says the only people they actually hear from regarding marijuana are those that are extremely against it or developers who want to sell there. City officials are hoping the surveys and public hearing will give them better insight on what to do moving forward.
