First, credit to WOOD TV 8.  I saw this story on their newscast and chased it down online.  I think it's important for you to know!

My wife and I have been in Grand Rapids for 4-5 months now.  I moved up here on August 15th and lived in a hotel for seven weeks.  Faith came up in late September after we secured "temporary housing" in an apartment complex.

Our house in a Toledo suburb is up for sale, so anything involving home sales, home prices or home anything makes me stop and listen.

That's why a story on WOOD TV 8 was of particular interest to me.  If your house is up for sale, you should be aware of this.

In this scam, thieves see your house listed for sale and then take that information and list your house for sale as a property they're trying to rent.  The story they tell is fairly believable.  And if you want to rent "their house," you just have to send the money overseas and they'll send the keys to you!  But your money is gone...and so is the hope of renting that house you really liked.

Some of these "rentals" have been popping up on a site called HotPads.com if you want to make sure your home-for-sale isn't listed as a rental.  (Yes, I checked it for mine!)
