While South Haven has a lot to boast about - gorgeous beaches, stunning sunsets, The National Blueberry Festival - it did not, until now, have it's own microbrewery.

Now South Haven can add that to the list. The first microbrewery in town opened this month!

MLive reports that owner Daniel Ballock, a former nurse at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo had dreamed for years to open a brewery.

When Ballock saw that York's Landing, a bar and grill along along the Black River in Old Harbor Village was closing, he decided to go for it.

Ballock's bar and grill opened in Dec. 15. at 515 Williams Street.  After getting approval to brew beer, the bar reopened as South Haven Brewpub March 10.

South Haven Brewpub offers eight hand-crafted beers and three types of shandys. They also have a full bar and a menu including pizza, burgers, and tacos.

According to MLive, Ballock plans to brew 500 barrels this year and eventually wants to expand to 16 taps.
