Southeast Michigan Hit with a “Likely” Meteor on Tuesday Night [Videos]
Many Michigan residents were left confused and worried after hearing a loud "BOOM" sound.
I was scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed and noticed that a lot of my friends and family from the Metro Detroit area had similar statuses regarding a really loud noise, shaking or a bright light.
Who else heard the bang!?
It's Men In Black or Indepenence day.
Either way we are experiencing a Will Smith movie.
Who else saw a light and loud bangs other then me ?!
What the **** was that flash
You get the point. Something happened that freaked people out. Reports started coming in just after 8 p.m. Tuesday. Some thought what they heard was thunder but the National Weather Service confirmed that it wasn't.
According to WXYZ Detroit's meteorologist what people heard is referred to as a "sonic boom." The meteor is also known as a "fireball" which means it burned out in the sky. If it did strike the ground it would otherwise be known as a meteorite.
You can see some of what residents captured in the videos below.
