It was a sad day yesterday, Steve had to drop the stray dog he found off at the shelter.  It was about a week ago that Steve found a pup he affectionately named Scrappy.  Scrappy happened into Brittainy and Steve's backyard, startling the both of them.  After having to chase him down the street, Steve finally got Scrappy to approach him.  He was injured, dirty, and covered in fleas.  Brittainy and Steve took him to a 24-hour emergency vet and got him cleaned up and scanned for a chip.  Scrappy was chipless and without tags, so now began the process of seeing if we could find the owner and/or trying to get him into a rescue or a shelter.

It was quite surprising at how hard the process of rescuing him was.  Almost all of the rescues in town were at capacity and weren't currently accepting new animals.  After speaking with several people at several organizations we concluded that the best course of action for Scrappy was to start the process towards adoption by being submitted to the only place in town we could find that was currently accepting pets.

Scrappy the stray pup is on to his next adventure in adoption land. Thank you to Hearts of Hope Dog Rescue, Humane Society of West Michigan, and Kent County Animal Shelter for doing their best to find him a foster family. If you are looking to adopt, NOW IS THE TIME! Shelters and rescues all over West Michigan are at capacity and need your help in finding these awesome animals homes! July 5th has the highest amount of lost pets and surrenders of any day of the year. With shelters and rescues at capacity, a lot of these missing pets might not have anywhere to go when found. So as I said before, now is the time to adopt! And if you happen to see Scrappy up for adoption in the near future, take him home! I wish we could have kept him, but sadly we couldn't. Thanks to everyone that helped me make sure that Scrappy has the opportunity to find a good home!
