I'm joined by Grand Rapids Police Chief Kevin Belk. Police Chief Belk and I discuss how our community has changed in the last 30 plus years he's been on the force and how GRPD has been able to continue to best serve it, what attracted him to law enforcement and public service, some of the things he misses about being out on patrol during his early days, his thoughts on the recent string of shootings, the meetings with community leaders at Messiah Missionary Church to help find solutions, what makes our community safer these days despite the shootings, the present state of gang activity in Grand Rapids, how he feels the community can help prevent our youth from going down the path of gang membership, his thoughts on the recently passed Decriminalize Marijuana proposal, some of the biggest potential challenges to GRPD as our city grows and the variety of ways they're working to meet them, and more…….
