
Surrogate Keeps Baby, Would-Be Parents Must Pay $785 Monthly
It's the nightmare most parents fear when they decide to use a surrogate mother: the surrogate ends up retracting her offer post-pregnancy and you're left with a bill and no baby. All devastating heartache aside, this particular case one-ups that horror of a nightmare scenario.
Because the father's sperm was used to create the child, a UK judge has ordered the grieving couple to pay roughly $785 (£500) a month on top of the £4,500 they originally doled out to cover the surrogacy expenses.
Though it seems like the surrogate is breaking the law, there are no legal-binding documents that require her to hand over the baby in a case like this. The child is now eight months old.
