If you were looking forward to coming to downtown Grand Rapids Friday night, watching the tree in front of the GRAM be lit, and then partaking in some ice skating, you're going to have to rethink part of your plans. It was announced today that the skating rink will not be opening on Friday evening as planned.

Another sign of the season in Grand Rapids! The annual tree lighting ceremony is December 6 at Grand Rapids Art Museum. The lighting will be followed by the opening of ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle!

You only have a few more days to enjoy ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle in Downtown Grand Rapids. The city announced today that they will be closing down the skating rink on Sunday, March 3rd.

A fun-filled evening for the family is planned for November 30th to kick off the holiday season in Rosa Parks Circle. A few of downtown's most popular holiday events (the GRAM Tree Lighting, the opening of Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink, and the free horse-drawn carriage rides) will be combined to make it into an event to truly kick off the holiday season in Grand Rapids.

City Commissioner Rosalynn Bliss announced on her Facebook page Friday night that ice skating at Rosa Parks Circle has ended for the season.

I've said many times before that lifelong Grand Rapidians don't know what a great city they have.  From the philanthropy that built the arena, convention center and a lot of the Medical Mile, to the savvy business owners who continue to invest in downtown, GR has a vibe that few cities (smaller or bigger) can match...

No turning back now.  Christmas is coming and Friday's celebration in downtown Grand Rapids serves as a small reminder that our shopping days are slowly ticking away. This Friday, the Grand Rapids Art Museum will hold their tree lighting ceremony, followed by the opening of ice skating at Rosa Parks circle, then the launch of a downtown Christmas decorating competition.
