The latest wave of COVID-19 has hit Michigan harder than other almost every other state and it is starting to put a strain on the hospital systems.

Mercy Health St. Mary's is over 100% capacity for beds. Currently, occupancy stands at 103%.

The vaccine, made right here in West Michigan, is the first of the three approved vaccines to move beyond the emergency use stage for those 16 and older. The vaccine will now be known as Comirnaty and will remain available for those aged 12-15 under its current authorizations.

Today the parent company that runs Mercy Health System in West Michigan, Trinity Health based in Livonia, announced that they will immediately begin requiring that employees receive the Covid-19 vaccination.

The clinic opened in late January and has administered over 200,000 vaccines.

The clinic will be an "appointment-only" situation, but once health officials are able to secure more doses of the vaccine, they hope to vaccinate 20,000 people daily.

Cases of COVID-19 needing hospitalization are higher now than they were at the highest point in the spring. Doctors worry that pandemic fatigue is to blame.
