As Stomach Parasite Cases Explode in Michigan, FDA Probes Taco Bell Lettuce Supplier

It's been a tough go lately if you're a Michigander.

We've been dealing with some crazy heat and humidity that has made going outside absolutely miserable.

On top of that we've been dealing with Canadian wildfire smoke that when breathed in is the same as smoking several cigarettes.

But one thing that has been a real pain in the butt to several thousands of Michiganders is consuming products that are contaminated with cyclosporiasis.

The microscopic parasite has sickened over 4,000 people in Michigan alone giving them stomach pain along with watery and explosive diarrhea.

The FDA has been working for weeks to try and find out the source for this and now believe they have narrowed it down to the possible source.

Iceberg lettuce supplier investigated as possible source in cyclosporiasis outbreak

Health officials in Michigan found that while talking to people that got sick, over 1,000 of them had consumed salad and leafy greens.

At the national level, the Food and Drug Administration is investigating iceberg lettuce supplied to Taco Bells by Taylor Farms as a possible source in the outbreak.

Recently in 2024, Taylor Farms was linked to an E. coli outbreak with slivered onions on McDonald’s Quarter Pounder hamburgers.

And back In 2013, over 600 people were sickened by a salad mix also linked to Taylor Farms.

I feel so bad for anyone that has gotten sick and had to deal with explosive diarrhea.

Hopefully health officials have found the source and people will eventually feel safe to enjoy their favorite greens, but just to be safe I'm going to skip the salads for the foreseeable future.
