After 30 Years Of Being In Business The Kostume Room In Wyoming Is Closing
The Kostume Room, a beloved costume rental shop in Wyoming, Michigan, is set to close its doors at the end of this year after 30 years of service.
The store has been a staple in the community, transforming Halloween experiences for countless families and individuals throughout the years.
The Early Days Of The Kostume Room
Founded by Gayle and Randy Vaartjes, The Kostume Room began as a small side business when Gayle started making costumes for their daughter.
What started as a simple sewing project quickly grew into a full-fledged business, with the couple expanding their offerings to include costumes for adults and various events beyond Halloween, such as school plays and charity functions.
Despite surviving challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic and competition from larger retailers, the decision to close comes after a developer's offer to purchase the building that houses the store.
Customers React To The Kostume Room Closing After 30 Years
As Halloween approaches, the couple reflects on their impact on the community.
Gayle Vaartjes shared her thoughts in a post to The Kostume Room's Facebook page.
It breaks my heart after 30 years we have to say goodbye but retirement is calling us . I wish we could stay young forever! It has been a pleasure for us to serve our community for so many years.
In preparation for their final Halloween season, The Kostume Room is currently offering markdowns on rentals and other items, with everything available for sale as they wind down operations.
They continue to emphasize their commitment to quality service, ensuring that all costume rentals are professionally cleaned on-site.
The Vaartjes hope that someone will step forward to take over their e-commerce business so that The Kostume Room can continue its legacy in some form.
As they prepare for this significant transition, they express gratitude for their loyal customers who have supported them throughout the years.
I myself have been to the Kostume Room many times and am bummed like everyone else that they will be closing up shop later this year.
