Truth be told, I haven't lived in the U.P. in 22 years, but I do still visit often. So while I may not be the world's premier expert on all things Upper Peninsula, I know a lot about it and have spent a lot of time there.
Recently, a post in a Facebook Group dedicated to all things U.P. piqued my interest. The original poster simply listed a couple of nicknames they had heard for U.P. towns and were wondering if there were any others that they had missed. It turns out, there were - a lot of them actually.

Nearly 182 commenters chimed in to share the nicknames that they themselves use or had heard used by others. And I was fascinated. Having spent the first twenty years of my life in the Upper Peninsula, I thought that I would have heard them all. But no. There were some that were completely new to me, and a few that made me laugh out loud.
So, I've culled through the comments and put together a list of some of my favorite quirky nicknames for Upper Peninsula towns. Let's take a look.
