Warming Shelters Now Open in Grand Rapids
It may seem a little early this year but this new week in West Michigan is expected to bring in record cold temps; with 1-3 inches of snow alone on Monday. To prepare for that, several warming centers around Grand Rapids are opening their doors.
The following shelters are now open:
- Dégagé Ministries: 144 Division Ave.
- God's Kitchen: 303 Division Ave.
- Grand Rapids HQ: 320 State St. SE **Ages 14-24 only**
- Guiding Light: 255 Divison Ave. SE
- Heartside Ministry: 54 Division Ave.
- Mel Trotter Ministries: 225 Commerce Avenue SW
- Westminster Presbyterian Church: 47 Jefferson Ave. SE
Since we're due for a brutal winter, Mel Trotter is in "Code Blue" meaning they are taking extra steps to ensure that the homeless are not only warm but safe this year. You can help out by donating some essentials such as coats, hats, gloves, etc. You can get more info here. Donations will be accepted through December 31 and includes items for all ages and sizes.
