Huff Elementary School put on a play called 'A Christmas Story' back in 1970. If you were in the cast, you might be in this photo.

Huff Elementary School was located directly across the street from Huff Park in northeast Grand Rapids.

As you can see from the above photo, the building still stands and is currently occupied by a church. It ceased being an elementary school in 2005, when it was sold by the school district to a developer.

But for over 70 years, it was an elementary school, and as such had kids in it who got fired up for Christmas every year, and 1970 was no expception.

In this Instagram post, the Grand Rapids City Archives posted a photo from 1970 in which some of the students at the school were preparing for a play called 'A Christmas Story'.

I'm not sure if the play they were putting on was similar to what would become the movie 'A Christmas Story' in 1983, with Ralphie and his Red Rider BB gun, but the original story, written by Jean Shepherd, was out there, because it was published in 1966.

Although judging by the costumes sported by some of the children in the photograph, it appears as it might be more along the lines of Charles Dickens classic story, 'A Christmas Carol'. It looks like there's a Marley with his jaw wrapped, and some clothing that looks more Victorian than Hohman, Indiana circa 1954.

At any rate, perhaps you went to Huff School in 1970 and are either in the photo or know someone who is, so I hope this is a nice memory for you.

As for the rest of us, it's kind of nice to look back and remember what it was like to be 10, 11 or 12 and how excited the Christmas season could make you feel.

Merry Christmas!
