The Detroit News reports that the Detroit Symphony Orchestra has made a bold announcement say they want to put musical instruments into the hands of any Detroit area K-12 graders who want to learn to play.

The story goes on to say the program is out there for any child enrolled in a public or private school within the city. The program will be called Detroit Harmony and it looks like they are using the instrument program to build upon Wu Family Academy for Learning and Engagement which the DSO operates.

According to Detroit News, all the details for the free instrument hookup is still being worked out, as they are looking for a Director of Detroit Harmony too.

I would love to see this initiative happen here in West Michigan especially as we continue to grow the reputation of being the concert destination in Michigan and we already have a vibrant Arts scene.
