Now that Christmas is over your first priority might be to take your decorations and tree down. If you had a natural tree this year, different cities around Kent County are offering Christmas tree recycling programs.

Even if you're someone like me who leaves her tree up until after the new year, you'll still have a chance to recycle your tree.

Grand Rapids

Now through February 3rd, you can drop off your tree, for FREE, at the following locations:

  • Riverside Park: 3151 Monroe Ave NE (north entrance)
  • JC Family Park: 2531 Kalamazoo Ave NE
  • Lincoln Park: 1120 Bridge St.
  • Huff Park: 2399 Ball Ave. NE

The alternate way is to leave your tree for curbside pickup. You must purchase a purple city bulk yard waste tag from City Hall for $2.50. The tree and tag must be visible and left on the curb by 7 a.m. on normal trash pick-up days. Make sure all decorations have been removed.

East Grand Rapids

Starting Monday, of the first full week in January, and going through Friday, of the second full week in January, the city will conduct curbside pickups.

The tree should be free of metal and decorations.

If after the 2-week period, leave your tree in your backyard until seasonal yard waste pickup resumes in April.

Alpine Township

Trees can be dropped off at 5255 Alpine Avenue NW.  The trees can be placed in the orange fenced in area near the west parking lot.

There are no drop off locations. Instead, leave the tree on the curb for pickup. Trees can't be over 8 feet tall. If so, it must be cut in half to be removed.

Tree drop off Monday-Friday from 8:30- 3:30 at 4095 White St.

Now through January 21, Christmas trees can be dropped off at:

  • Walker City Hall: 4243 Remembrance Road NW
  • Walker Community Park: 650 Cummings Ave. NW
  • Fire Station No. 3: 1470 Three Mile Road NW.

This is ONLY for Walker residents.
