White Cloud Schools Superintendent Barry Seabrook says that while he supports students supporting breast cancer awareness, he can no permit inappropriate things in his school.

"We teach respect here in the White Cloud schools, and dignity," Seabrook told our media partner, WZZM 13.

On Wednesday, four high school students in White Cloud were suspended because they wouldn't remove bracelets that the superintendent found to be "inappropriate" and disruptive.

What can be inappropriate about a bracelet, you may ask? The rubber bracelets in questions were imprinted with the sayings, "I Love Boobies" and "Peace, Love, and Boobies".

One of the 9th graders who was suspended told administrators that he would not remove his bracelets until he got his point across. The administration got their point across by suspending him for a day.

Now, they technically weren't suspended for wearing the bracelets, according to the superintendent. They were instead suspended for insubordination because they refused to remove them, turn them inside out or get them out of sight.

"They refused to take them off, turn them around or get them out of sight, and for insubordination they were sent home," explains Superintendent Seabrook.

The superintendent says he completely supports breast cancer awareness efforts and finding a cure.

White Cloud administrators do permit students to wear t-shirts supporting the cause.

"One had the word 'ta tas' on it," Seabrook told WZZM. "One had 'funbags'. One had a picture of deer antlers that stated 'check your rack'. I told them those were pretty borderline, but I could live with it. I couldn't live with 'boobie bracelets.'"

The students who were suspended have agreed to comply with the school's request, but plan to bring this issue up in the school board meeting scheduled for later this month.

"My grandma died of breast cancer and it has run through that side of the family," said one of the students. "That's one of the main reasons I care about it."

Do you think that the school took appropriate action? Or do you think that students should be able to show support for this cause in what ever way they choose?
