I have a bone to pick with some of my colleagues in Kalamazoo.

You see, the company that owns this radio station, owns stations in Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Lansing, and Flint. Recently I saw that our Kalamazoo cluster was looking for the “Favorite Bartender” just like we have here, but they said they were looking for West Michigan’s Favorite Bartender… which threw me off, since we “stations located in Grand Rapids, TRULY WEST MICHIGAN” have also looked for our favorites.  Are they truly "West Michigan"?

When I clicked on the article to vote… that's when I saw what they classify as “West Michigan”:

For the sake of this poll we are including Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Joseph, Branch, Allegan and Barry counties only.

That seems like a lot of “SOUTHWEST Michigan” doesn’t it? So I emailed one of my many bosses to ask about this and didn't really get a reply, which makes me wonder...  AM I WRONG?

Are Grand Rapids, Wyoming, Kentwood, Hastings, Holland, Jennison, Cedar Springs, Rockford, Allendale, Hudsonville, Grandville, Grand Haven, Muskegon not the exact CENTER of West Michigan?

Should our friends in Kalamazoo own the “SOUTHWEST Michigan” distinction and be proud?

Here’s where I need your help. Do you consider Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Calhoun, Joseph, Branch, Allegan, and Barry counties as WEST MICHIGAN or SOUTHWEST MICHIGAN?

I mean, after all, we do have the WEST MICHIGAN Whitecaps, while they just have the Kalamazoo Growlers. No disrespect, but I mean, it’s in the name.

If I’m right, YAY! (Who doesn't like being right?) If I’m wrong, I’ll probably delete this blog, but at least I’ll know where I stand.  Thanks for the help!
