One of the gripes my Dad and stepmom had was the fact that I spent so much time doing something that was a "waste of time". But little did I know in just 10-15 short years, it's now become one of the biggest sports for high school and college aged kids.

In fact, one West Michigan School is making us proud with their incredible skills behind the keyboard and controller.

Their program may have only started 7 years ago, but the East Kentwood Esports team has come a long way. They started with a modest 6 person team that only played League of Legends, and now they're becoming legends in their own right.

In early August, USA Today came out with a ranking for the top high school esports programs all across the country, and East Kentwood landed on the list tied for 18th place which is INCREDIBLE!

They now have almost 150 students on the team that compete in 8 separate games, and they're great. In fact, they've got more banners hanging on their walls than other teams do even with their short lifespan.

So the next time your parents try to give you shade and say "you're wasting your time", remember that there are kids out there getting scholarships all by playing and competing in their favorite video games.

Congrats to the students at East Kentwood for their accomplishments, and we can't wait to see them growing in the upcoming years.
