Retired Detroit Firefighter And His Son Want You To Try Their Candy

Dave Chmielewski is a retired firefighter from Detroit and like many others in his profession, he always loved to cook and bake during his down time. (You've got to do something while you're waiting on the action, after all.)

While he was always confident in his abilities, when he would make his homemade Toffee Candy, he would get a reaction from his co-workers, friends and family unlike anything else he'd seen before. People would call him at home, begging for a batch of his signature candy.

Dave and his son saw the potential of what he had. A few mason jars and hand printed labels later and that's when Dave's Sweets came to life. He and his son Andrew started commercially selling their candy in 2011 for people from coast to coast to enjoy.

In a tiktok video seen over 5 Million times, they show off some of their favorites including the very Michigan Dark Chocolate Cherry Toffee. Made with real Michigan Cherries, this one seems like the crown jewel of their collection.

And as someone who grew up in Kentucky, I have to co-sign on their Maple Bourbon Pecan, because they use Elijah Craig to make it. Anyone willing to go the length to use the good stuff, deserves your hard earned money.
