An unusual sight around Michigan this week as a 170-foot Spanish galleon and a replica Viking longboat are sailing through.

WZZM-13 reports the galleon will sail up the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair and St. Clair River early this week before docking in Bay City for the weekend.

The ship will sail for Chicago on July 18. It will pass underneath the Mackinac Bridge and through the Soo Locks while on the way to Lake Superior.

The Viking longboat, Draken Harald Hårfagre, had originally planned to make the same trip but will now only go as far as Bay City due to costs.

"There is not room in our budget to go futher west into the Great Lakes, but we can not let the people in Bay City down. The Tall Ships Celebration in Bay City is just days away and the planning is in it’s final stages, it would be great dissapointment for us and more importantly to the people we already commited to," said captain Björn Ahlander.
