All Aboard! Stay Overnight in This Restored Michigan Train Station Airbnb
Chalk this one up to someone who understands the significance of historical places and the creativity and skill to renovate them into something pretty spectacular. An 1871 Michigan train depot has a new lease on life in the form of a cool Airbnb and it's everything you thought it would be and more.
Located in the village of Colon, Michigan, the train depot found new life when it was moved to its current location in 1993. The owners spent painstaking time renovating and refurbishing the historic depot piece by piece making sure to salvage the original doors and nearly all of the interior beaded wainscoting as well as all of the unique antique "window weight" windows. The original siding in the original depot color still exists as well.
The result? One incredible Airbnb just waiting for guests. The 2 bedroom 1.5 bath "home" sleeps 5 guests comfortably amongst charming decor in every room. Keeping with the historical theme, visitors will find antiques, a stunning restored sleigh, and beautiful custom-made cabinets inside.
Guests will find the home perfectly situated on a hill, just above the tracks where the depot once welcomed trains. Relax on the front patio or the whimsical train platforms and patio out the back.
Guests can venture into the village of Colon, located in southwest Michigan, to scope out the charming shops and dining options. There are also several all-sports lakes nearby, as well as places for kayaking and canoeing along the St. Joe River.
This is by far one of the most unique Airbnbs in the state! Rates start at $199 per night. Take a look inside.
