High school football season is set to kick off in a week and a half, but one West Michigan school's players won't be able to participate this year.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, White Cloud Public Schools' Superintendent Ed Canning posted to Facebook they simply do not have enough players to field a varsity team this season.

The good news, according to the Facebook post, is that the school has more than 25 Junior Varsity players and many students participating in 7th and 8th grade Rocket Football.

Not only does the cancellation effect the football players, it also effects students who participate in other activities including band and cheer leading.

Another side-effect of the move is for the teams that White Cloud was scheduled to play this season - Wyoming Lee, Montabella, River Valley, Hart, Kent City, Hesperia, Holton, Morley-Stanwood, and Lakeview will now likely only have an eight-game season as opposed to the normal nine-game season.
