Planned Power Outage Will Leave Roughly 1,500 in Alto in the Dark This Weekend

Overnight work by Consumers Energy in West Michigan this weekend will leave approximately 1,500 customers in the dark this weekend.

In a release, Consumers Energy announced that it will be doing upgrades to a substation in the Alto area to "improve reliability for customers in the community." Thankfully, the work is going to be done overnight, and shouldn't prove to be too disruptive.

When Is the Planned Consumers Energy Power Outage in Alto, Michigan

The work is planned to begin around 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2026, and conclude no later than 7 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026. This will affect customers in eastern Kent County near the Ionia County line.

Consumers says that the affected area will be from approximately I-96 to the north to Bowne Center to the south.

Those who live in the affected area should have received postcards announcing the project.

If, for some reason, Consumers is unable to do the work this weekend, the scheduled backup date is Saturday, September 19, 2026.
