A Tortoise Will Make the First Pitch at the Whitecaps Game Today

Yes, a tortoise.

Former Detroit Tigers pitcher, Joel Zumaya, is scheduled to throw out the pitch at today's West Michigan Whitecaps game but he follows Burt the Tortoise.

Mlive says a baseball will be strapped to Burt's shell and have it walk from the mound to home plate. It should take Burt, who is 45 pounds, about 5 to 10 minutes to make the walk over. The Whitecaps will also broadcast the tortoise "pitch" on Facebook Live.

Zumaya, who is known for throwing a 103mph fastball, will be giving an actual pitch once Burt has crossed the home plate.

Tonight's game is scheduled for 7 p.m. but you can watch the slowest pitch ever starting at 6:40 p.m.
